B Corp in action: our commitment in practice

At Cook it, we’re proud to be part of the Fresh Prep group—a company that’s been a Certified B Corporation since 2019. For Fresh Prep, being a B Corp isn’t just a title—it’s a commitment to meeting the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility.

Last week, we shared why this certification matters and how it reflects our values. As we continue to celebrate B Corp Month, we’re excited to show how these values come to life every day—from responsibly sourcing ingredients to reducing waste and fostering a positive social impact.

Responsible sourcing & ingredient choices

At Cook it, we prioritize sourcing ingredients from local suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability and ethical farming practices. We work with Canadian distributors for our meal kits, ready-to-eat meals, and salads, helping support local economies while reducing our environmental impact.

By choosing responsibly sourced ingredients, we aim to make sure your meals are fresh, delicious, and environmentally friendly. This includes opting for sustainable seafood whenever possible and using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to minimize the impact of imports.

Reducing waste & environmental impact

Minimizing waste is central to our business. We use sustainable packaging solutions, like reusable cooler bags and Zero Waste Kits, to reduce single-use materials. Our meal portions are designed to reduce food waste and save you time

We’ve introduced compostable packaging for select items and work with Urban Impact to responsibly recycle single-use plastics. Additionally, our fleet of electric vehicles lowers our carbon footprint, and we offset 100% of our delivery emissions. These efforts have already led to significant waste reductions, and we’re continually working on ways to improve.

Social & community impact

Our commitment to sustainability extends to the communities we serve. Through Peko, we rescue surplus or imperfect produce to reduce food waste and help address food insecurity. We partner with organizations like Vancouver Food Runners and The Leftovers Foundation to donate meals to those in need.

We also focus on creating a positive workplace, offering fair wages, supporting employee well-being, and fostering diversity and inclusivity.

By combining these efforts, we’re working to strengthen our communities and show that businesses can thrive while doing good.

Looking ahead

Being a B Corp is more than just a title—it’s a commitment to creating meaningful change. Through responsible sourcing, waste reduction, and social impact, we aim to make a difference that goes beyond our business.
